creating your mobile routine
The past three weekends, I have left my university to travel out of the state. Returning Sunday night, or even on a red-eye on a Monday morning, typically throws me off completely. It is hard to miss that “Sunday reset” and jump into the week of work, school, and other activities. The truth is, as hard as we work to build routines and get into a flow, it is impossible to predict the last minute trips or schedule changes. The past few years as a student, I’ve especially struggled with this - things always coming up, traveling for sports, quick trips home, etc. Instead of feeling completely discombobulated and out of my groove, I have learned to find what I call a “mobile routine.”
For me, a mobile routine means self-care and organization that I can depend on, every week or every day, no matter where I might be. This routine isn’t long, but it is something I can rely on: organization for the mind, body, and soul.
MIND: For peace of mind, I lay out my to-dos in a journal, or even on my phone. This includes my big events of the week, emails I want to send, or even groceries - anything that gives me a clearer picture of what I have coming in the near future.
BODY: For consistency with my physical health, I know that I have stretches or short workout routines that make me feel refreshed. Whether it’s five minutes or I have time to get in a quick sweat, I can depend on these movements to clear my mind and make me feel refreshed.
SOUL: Lastly, I always have a soul-filler on hand (anything that I know will fill my cup!). Maybe it’s journaling, meditation, listening to a certain song or playlist, or drinking your favorite tea! For me right now, I’ve prioritized bringing my favorite face lotion and taking the time to take care of my skin every day, wherever I may be.
So I encourage you to take a moment: can you make your own mobile routine? How can you ground yourself in moments that throw you out of your groove? And the best part is, we have a Jar filled with soul-fillers made for moments just like this! Check out for those far from home :)
You deserve it!
